Summer Program with DoNotForget

Hamzah Azzam • July 23, 2022

Many of us have fond memories of summer programs from our younger years. We developed friendships, acquired new abilities, and encountered various environments... all resulting in lifetime-lasting memories. In this short blog, we would like to talk about our first summer program 2022,  for kids.

Our first summer program was incredibly unique. As a start, we got to inquire about more than 100 kids. It all happened in the Palestinian refugee camp Nahel El Bared in Lebanon. The program consisted of plenty different of things for kids: activities, social work, skills....etc.

Things that kids learned through the summer program –

  • kids learned new skills like crafts and art.
  • They were physically and mentally active through different sets of activities.
  • Their social skills were improved because they had to socialize with others.
  • Making new friends and understanding their views and concerns.

More than ten volunteers used to work with the children every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, which is three days per week for the past two months. During that period, not only did the children learn, but the volunteers also learned many skills regarding time management, dealing with young kids, and, most importantly, giving their best.

In the following years, we are looking to work with different refugee camps, which will be one of the most significant challenges.

Their first mission, called "Warm Gifts Across Borders," involves collecting winter clothing to send to a refugee camp in Lebanon. The team has faced challenges in finding funding, but has been successful in collecting a significant amount of clothing to send to the camp. Do Not Forget is also planning to apply to the Go Make a Difference project, which helps fund projects that make a positive impact on the community.

You can contribute too! Refugees in the Lebanese camps also get cold. So check your closet for clothing items you do not need or use anymore and send them to us. Or donate on the website so we can send them the clothes. We are grateful, and so are they.
